Today is Thursday so it is Guided Reading Day so let's head over to the Big Cat Home page.  Then follow the instructions to log onto Collins Connect to access their e-book library.

You have been working really hard on subtraction (take away) number sentences this week.  Let's have a quick recap using the powerpoint below.

Now see if you can apply what you have learnt to solving the number sentences attached below.  You can either use objects or your number line to help you.  You can choose from either numbers to 10 or numbers to 20 to practise.

Year 1.

We have spent a lot of time over the last few weeks looking at different strategies for addition.  Today we are going to remind ourselves about subtraction number sentences.

Let's start by seeing what can you remember about subtraction?

Hopefully, you came up with things like the numbers get smaller, you always start with the biggest number, you can't switch the numbers round in a subtraction number sentence and that it is the opposite (inverse) of addition.

Now work through the video below to practise some subtractions.

Now have a go at one of the activity sheets attached below. There are 3 different levels to choose from and a discussion problem if you would like an extra challenge.

All this week we have been learning about our different senses and today we are going to be looking at our sense of smell.

Have a look at the sense of smell powerpoint to find out a little bit more about the sense of smell.

What is your favourite smell?  What smells don't you like?

Now have a look at the powerpoint smells quiz below.  Can you give each smell a thumbs up or thumbs down?  Which smell do you prefer on each page?

• Mystery smells.  It is easy to make some mystery smell pots.  Get some cotton wool balls or pads and put the in small yoghurt pots.   Put different smells on each pad - can you guess what they are?
• You need fairly strong smells for this activity - you could try coffee, spices, food flavourings, perfume, fruit juice, toothpaste.

Make sure you don't forget to write the next part of your Superhero story.  Can you spot where Mickey Thompson and Purvis have used the sense of touch in their story?

It was Creepy McClaws!   A huge pink wave broke over Supermouse.  He was trapped in a sea of pink sticky gloop. How could he get out?   Creepy McClaw laughed his evil laugh.  Albert Mousestein used his super brain.  The sticky pink stuff reminded him of something.
