Geography
In Geography we strive for our pupils to gain an understanding of the physical and human world. We want all of our pupils to feel connected to each other and the world around them. We seek for them to gain an international mindset, through our curriculum and partnerships, recognising that all people in the world are interdependent.
Our Geography curriculum at Abberley aims to inspire pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers with a diverse knowledge of the world; in other words, to think like a geographer. We want pupils to develop the confidence to question and observe places, measure and record necessary data in various ways, and analyse and present their findings. Through our curriculum, we aim to build an awareness of how Geography shapes our lives at multiple scales and over time. We hope to encourage pupils to become resourceful, active citizens who will have the skills to contribute to and improve the world around them.
Through the geography curriculum, children experience a comprehensive and engaging curriculum that covers a wide range of geographical concepts and skills. Our curriculum introduces students to the study of their local environment and extends to global perspectives, including physical and human geography. Children explore topics such as landforms, climate, ecosystems, and cultural features, using a variety of interactive resources and activities that make learning dynamic and relevant.
Our geography curriculum also emphasises the development of essential geographical skills, such as map reading, data interpretation, and spatial awareness. Lessons are designed to be hands-on and inquiry-based, encouraging students to investigate and question their surroundings. By incorporating fieldwork, digital tools, and real-world case studies, the scheme helps children apply their learning practically, fostering a deeper understanding of both local and global geography.
