Monday 23rd March
Welcome to our first home learning session.
I have given different challenges by using bronze, silver or gold activities. In today's lessons choose which level challenge is appropriate for you and your child. There is no need to do all three different levels.
Phonics (20 mins): Write the word ‘I fly’ and ask how you would change it to ‘he flies’ What do you notice about the spelling? Repeat with I cry – he cries, I carry – he carries, I copy – he copies, I reply – he replies
Talk about the rule of changing y to an i and then adding es
Write the words cry, carry, copy, reply and ask your child to write out the plural spellings (don’t worry too much if they don’t pick up the rule straight away – this is only the first lesson)
If you want to play this game to reinforce some of the spellings…

Click on the egg hunt (free game) single player and then click on the letters in the correct order to make the words on the side. Good Luck.

English (30 mins): Watch this link to listen to the poem - I Love Bugs by Emma Dodd.
Write the words from the poem, e.g. springy, jumpy etc so that there is a large group of words (I have listed the words below – so you can write the word and then read it together with your child or print them off and cut them up?) Use the words to make up some new noun phrases to describe different animals or bugs. Draw your new bug showing the expanded noun phrases.
I can create unusual descriptions through the way in which words are put together to describe different bugs. |
|
Bronze |
Write expanded noun phrases using words from the book to describe the bugs. |
Silver |
Think of new describing words which are not from the book to describe other bugs. |
Gold |
Did you hear the alliteration in the poem? Can you use alliteration to create a powerful descriptions to describe a different bug? |
Maths ( 30 - 45 mins): warm up activity - read and do together.
Watch the video
With the clock I gave you on Friday – practise asking your child to set their clock to 'o' clock, ½ past times and when they have understood where the hands need to be then go on to the activities below. This may take a while so have some patience.
I can read the time on a clock to the nearest 15 minutes |
|
Bronze |
Section A and B on sheet 30 clocks 1 |
Silver |
Think about your own day and tell me what you will be doing at o clock, ½ past and maybe ¼ to and ¼ past times. Draw some clocks in your book and draw on the hands and then write a sentence telling me what you will be doing. |
Gold |
If you are confident telling the time - Section C of the sheet and then draw clocks to explain what you are doing, but don’t restrict your clocks to easy times! |
Have fun the rest of the day. Happy learning.
