English: L.O: To write a flash forward scene from the perspective of a different character in present tense and in first person.
Activity 1: Listen to chapter 8 of 'Pig Heart Boy' on the Learning --> Stories page on the website.
Activity 2: The following words appear in the chapter you have just listened to. Find the definition for these four words and write their definitions in FULL sentences:
- Feeble
- Chronic
- Feigned
- Scowled
Mr Stewart, Cam's teacher, asks Cam if it is true that he will be absent from school next week, if he's having a heart transplant and whether he could let the rest of the class know. Later in the day, Mr Stewart asks Cam to come to the front of the class to 'say a few words'.
The two key moments in the story where Mr Stewart appears are:
1. Mr Stewart talking to Cam about the heart transplant.
2. Mr Stewart asking Cam to come to the front of the class to talk about his transplant.
Activity 3: Your challenge is to rewrite these two key scenes in chapter 8 from Mr Stewart's point of view/ perspective.
Like in our 'Skittles' stories, I would like you to start your story with Mr Stewart approaching Cam to discuss Cam's operation, and then your writing will FLASH FORWARD (using ellipsis ...) to transition into the scene where Mr Stewart asks Cam to talk to the class.
Your writing must:
- Be written from Mr Stewart's point of view.
- Be written in present tense (use present tense verbs throughout)
- Be written in first person (use I, we, me pronouns)
- Use ellipsis to flash forward in time between these two key parts of the story involving Mr Stewart.
Please share your finished pieces of writing on the 'merlinshomelearning' blog if you wish. I will provide feedback.
