English L.O: To identify the subjunctive verb form.Activity 1: Listen to Chapter 12 of 'The Stolen Sister' on the Learning --> Stories page of the website. Activity 2: Watch the video below. In this video you will be introduced to the 'Subjunctive Verb Form'. This SPaG concept can be a tricky one to grasp so you will need to listen to the video very carefully and if you don't quite grasp it first time, go back and watch the video again. One thing to remember before you watch: when we talk about the 'infinitive' verb form, all we mean is this is the verb as you find it in a dictionary (no prefixes or suffixes come before or after). For example, you wouldn't find the words 'recycle' or 'cycling' in the dictionary. You would only find the word 'cycle' as this is the root (infinitive) form!
Activity 3: Open up the file below titled 'Subjunctive Form Activity 1'. For this activity, you will need to tick only the sentences that are written in the subjunctive verb form. Please check your answers using 'Subjunctive Form Activity 1 (Answers)' when you have completed this activity. Activity 4: Open up the file below titled 'Subjunctive Form Activity 2'. For this activity, you will need to highlight the verbs in each sentence that are written in the subjunctive verb form. History L.O: To explore the role of working children in Victorian Britain.Before half term, you learnt about what if was like for a Victorian child to attend school and the key differences between Victorian schools and modern, 21st century schools. However, not all children attended school (particularly in the early Victorian period). Many poor children were sent to work to earn money for their families, those without families went to the workhouse. Activity 1: Watch the video on the left (below) to learn more about why children were expected to work and then watch the Horrible Histories video on the right (below) which will give an idea of what conditions were like for them!
Activity 2: Click the link below to learn more about the types of jobs children took on during the Victorian period. The information on this webpage is especially important for the next task. Link: Working Children Activity 3: Open the attachment below titled 'Working Children'. Using this worksheet, I want you to research what it was like for a poor, working child during the Victorian period and answer the question prompts on this attachment (the link above provides almost all the information you will need). Provide as much detail as you can. |
P.E.At a time where we all find ourselves indoors for the most of the day, we should bear in mind how important daily exercise is for our health and wellbeing, particularly our mental health. If you are able to, take your device somewhere with plenty of space (even the garden on a nice sunny day) or clear some space in front of your computer and follow along with Joe Wicks for a 30 minute workout.
