Our final day of phonics learning this term. Let's make it a good one!

Phonics.

Reception.

Let's warm up with the Boom Shake alphabet.  I know it is one of your favourites!

Our final blend today is st.  We have already learnt this sound at the start of words but today we are going to thinking about it at the end of words.

What have Mickey Thompson and Purvis found on their trip around the house.  It looks like a shopping  ?

Can you have a go at writing the word?   I wonder what else they could have found that ends in the st sound?   

Blending for reading.  Print off the final blend flash cards below and have a game of read and race.  

Segmenting for spelling.  Using the pictures below see if you can make your own list of st words.

This week we have been learning about patterns.  Let's warm up with this song from Scratch Garden - can you guess what comes next in each pattern?

 

Now let's work through the powerpoint attached below to recap what we know so far about pattern.   You will need to think carefully as some of them are quite tricky.

Now have a go at the repeating pattern scarf sheet attached below.  Can you finish off the patterns?  Can you design your own repeating pattern?

Year 1.

For the rest of this week we are going to be looking at our final maths topic of the Year.

Position and Direction.

Let's warm up with a game.  Click on the position movement powerpoint below and see if you follow the instructions.  Even more fun if you put music to it.

Do you know which is your right hand and which is your left hand?   How can you tell?

There is a really easy way to remember.  Hold your hands out in front of you like in the picture below.  Your left hand will form a capital L shape.  You can also remember by thinking about which hand you hold your pencil in.  Are you right handed or left handed?

Today we are going to be learning about turns.   Can you stand up?

Now can you turn a quarter turn to the right.  We call this turning clockwise because we are turning the same way as the hands on a clock.  Keep turning in quarter turns until you get back to where you started.  How many quarter turns did it take?

This time turn a quarter turn to the left.  We call this turning anticlockwise because we are turning the opposite way to a clock.  Keep turning in quarter turns until you are back at the beginning again.  How many turns did it take?

This time turn half a turn.  You should be facing the opposite way to where you started.  Can you do half a turn back again?

Parents - shout out some commands to your children involving quarter and half turns. You can vary the language using left and right or clockwise and anticlockwise.  If your child is feeling confident introduce three quarter and full turns.

Now let's have a go at using what we have learnt to programme the beebots or other programmable toy to travel through a maze. You can build a maze out of construction or books.   Look Mickey Thompson and Purvis have had a go with their car.

Yesterday we learnt about the special building called a synagogue for the Jewish faith where people go to learn about and pray to God.  Today we are going to find out about the Jewish Holy Day when Jewish people visit the synagogue.

Each week Jewish people celebrate their Holy day called Shabbat.  Shabbat starts on a Friday evening and lasts until a Saturday evening.

See if you can remember some of the things Jewish people do to celebrate Shabbat and some of things they are not allowed to do on Shabbat.  Print off and cut out the 2 titles attached below.   In your home learning book stick one on each page. 

Now using the titles can you draw a picture (Reception) and write a sentence (Year 1) of one thing you do celebrate to Shabbat and one thing you are not allowed to do on Shabbat?
