Sports Day - 17th July

This will be held on the afternoon of Monday 17th July. Parents are welcome to arrive from 12.45pm and enter through the wooden gate onto the field. Please bring your own chairs (and sunshade if it is a hot day) and enjoy the afternoon with us.

Charity fun run - 20th July

On Thursday 20th July, we will be doing our termly cross country run. We have normally completed this for 'Race for Life'. However, this is not being run for schools this year, so we will be collecting sponsorship for a local children's charity still to be decided by the CREW group. As it is a Thursday PE kits should be in school anyway, but children are welcome to come to school in their PE kit and bring a fancy costume or bright clothing to wear for the run if they would like to. 

Summer fair 

We look forward to welcoming as many of you as can make it to our summer fair on Friday 7th July. 

Class Photographs

Class photos were taken this week and all parents should have received a secure email with a link.

Reminder than Wrens will be visiting Noverton Farm on Tuesday. Mrs Shelley will be accompanying Mrs Lench for this visit. 

Also, a reminder that it is the Early Years Music festival at the Chantry on Friday. The theme this year is pirates.

Skylarks are enjoying their class book 'Hermelin the Detective Mouse' and this week have been using the wonderful illustrations to develop their use of prepositions. They have written descriptive paragraphs using a range of prepositions.

In maths and science, we have been completing our end of term progress assessments. The Skylarks have shown once again what superstars they are and completed these tests with no fuss.  They have demonstrated the great depth of knowledge they have acquired this year. 

In PSHE, we had fun arranging different items and sorting whether they belonged to a baby, child, teenager or adult. We saw that we definitely change as we grow in terms of what we like doing.

In outdoor learning we had a great time around the fire and our toasted marshmallows tasted delicious!

In history, we have continued with our Witley Court learning and looked at how large houses had many people working in them, and the jobs that they did. 

In computing, we all designed our own branching database and realised the importance of yes/no questions when sorting the data.

This week in Kingfishers, the children have been completing assessments on a variety of different subjects. These assessments allow the children to show all that they have learnt over the year. They showed great concentration and perseverance whilst completing these and should be very proud of themselves.

In history, we explored Ancient Greek Warfare. The children learnt about hoplite soldiers and also trireme boats that were used in battle. 

In science, the children investigated the properties of rocks. They used their scientific knowledge to determine if a rock was permeable, durable, soft or hard and whether it was high or low density. 

In Kestrels this week it has been assessment week, with the children completing tests in English (spelling, punctuation and grammar, reading and writing), maths and science. The children have approached these with maturity and a positive attitude.

In PSHE, we discussed puberty in boys and the changes that happen during this time. We had an interesting conversation about if puberty was more difficult for boys or girls. It was lovely to hear that the children appreciated the issues that both sexes experienced and could empathise with each other.

In PE, the focus was on fielding in rounders and the children practised the skill of retrieving a ball that was rolling along the ground. They then played a game of rounders to reinforce this and could see how this helped to improve their fielding skills.

This week has been assessment week in Merlins' class. The children have completed their final school assessments in reading, writing, GPS and maths. These will be the last assessments they will do at primary school, and it was great to see that they were as dedicated as they have been in all other assessments they have completed this year.

On Wednesday, we were at The Chantry High School for a transition sports day. This was a fantastic day lead by Mrs Coleman and a fantastic group of young leaders. The children had the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting events whilst meeting other children in the cluster, many of which they will be with when they enter Year 7. 

In PSHE this week, we learnt all about pregnancy and birth. The children had mature and inquisitive attitudes during this session and asked many thoughtful questions. They learnt about the changes that happen in the body as the baby develops and have a much wider vocabulary when it comes to describing this natural process.
