Lost Property

Lost property will be put out on the front playground next week and anything that hasn't been claimed will either go into the schools recycled uniform shop or donated to Acorns Children's Hospice charity shop. May we remind you to name all uniform please.

We all had fun on Thursday during our transition morning meeting our new teachers and exploring new classrooms. The new Year 3's met their new teacher, Mr Darling, whilst the new Year 1&2 pupils did some artwork and creative writing with Miss Rixon.  The new Receptions spent the morning exploring their new school and enjoyed eating their lunch in the hall and joining in with the Disney Disco during lunchtime.

On Friday we spent the day learning about Eco and what we can do to help our planet with our annual Green Day. The whole school was split into groups and moved around the classroom learning through games, quizzes, drama, artwork and many more fun activities.

This week in science, we have enjoyed learning which plants are edible. In computing, we looked at how the International Space Station uses sensors to control the living conditions for the astronauts, and in music we have been performing our class song through singing and playing percussion instruments.

Please could all children look at home for any Little Wandle books as we do have some books missing from our collections. Check under beds and behind sofas!

This week in English, the children have been planning their persuasive letter to the King. They have been using all the persuasive techniques we've been learning, such as rule of three, rhetorical questions and statistics to back up arguments. The children then began writing their letters, ensuring that they set them out correctly with the sender's address, recipient's address, date and greeting. Next week, they will be finishing these letters and finishing the book. 

In maths, we have been learning about statistics. The children have been interpreting and problem solving with charts and pictograms. Then the children interpreted data from bar charts before drawing their own bar charts to represent different sets of data.

In French, we have linked with another school in Worcester. The children have been learning to talk about and describe their family, pets and friends. They have put this new knowledge into a postcard which we will send to the other school next week. The children are very excited by this task and are looking forward to receiving a post card back.

In English, we started the week by looking at how the author of Wild Boy uses colour in his writing to create atmosphere and effect when describing different settings used in the story. The children then chose a picture of a secret room and used this technique to write their own descriptions of this mysterious place. We have reached a point in the story where Wild Boy returns to the workhouse he was taken from years ago. He has many dark and sinister memories from this place.

In maths, we have been using our knowledge of how to divide and multiply by 1000 to convert km to m, m to km, kg to g and g to kg. It is always pleasing when the children can see how their prior learning can be used in other areas of maths and they picked these conversions up quickly.

As the Y6 children moving to the Chantry had their transition day on Thursday, we rehearsed for the production on Wednesday afternoon. The children are almost performance ready, and it is lovely to see the play coming together so well. The children are very excited about the dress rehearsal on Monday morning and even more excited to perform Star Warts for you on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Tickets are still available if you haven't bought yours yet!

This week in Merlins, a group of Merlins headed to Worcester to take part in the Bellboating regatta. I am so proud of their hard work, determination, and teamwork skills. It is outstanding that they managed to secure 3rd place out of 62 schools. We were so proud of them.

In English, we have read more chapters of Wild Boy. Based on our reading of the story up to this point, we have worked hard to empathise with Wild Boy in planning a flashback sequence that he will experience when approaching the old workhouse he was abandoned in as a child. This week, we have focused on writing the paragraph that leads up to the flashback as he remembers the dark and sinister time he experienced years ago.

We have had our final production rehearsal before next week's dress rehearsal and final two performances to parents. The children are working so hard, and we so look forward to sharing this fantastic production with audiences next week.
