This week in English, the children have been describing the character of Traction Man using expanded noun phrases. They have also been learning what similes are, how to write them and how they make our writing more interesting to read.
In maths, Year 1 have started learning about measurement. They've compared lengths and heights of objects and each other, measured items using non-standard units and have learnt about centimetres and how to measure using a ruler. Year 2 have focused on their 5 times table and spotting patterns within this. They've also used their knowledge to divide by 5. We ended this week with a maths Easter hunt around the school grounds.
In science, we've been learning about parts of the human body. This week the focus was on the parts of the body associated with the 5 senses. The children thought about their senses to identify their favourite smells, tastes and sounds. We also went on a nature walk around the school grounds and they recorded what they could see, hear, smell and touch.
On Tuesday, Year 2s had a visit from Safety Seymour who taught them about carbon monoxide. Please see the news article for pictures and more information.
In music this week, we have been learning to sing Dance to your Daddy. We explored the difference between rhythm and pulse, using a selection of different percussion instruments to perform the rhythm. We discussed what each instrument is called and how it is played.
We hope that those of you that came enjoyed the Bunny Hop for Acorns and the songs that the children performed. Have a lovely Easter!
